There will be a Golf Day at Kings Hill Golf Club in October in memory of two Kent football fans.
The event on Tuesday 3rd October will be held in memory of Andy Thornewell and Dan Carlton who both tragically passed away in the past few years.
Organising the event is Mark Thornewell, cousin of Andy and despite living in the United States now, the Gillingham fan is determined to do something to remember two great friends:
“For a while now I have wanted to organise a Golf outing and get together in memory of my cousin Andy who died in a tragic car crash 2 years ago aged just 28.”
“Since Andy’s passing I have also lost my Grandad and most recently my best childhood friend, Dan, who lost his battle with cancer just after Christmas aged just 33.”
“I played a lot of Golf with both Andy and Dan growing up in Kent and many of their friends and family loved the idea of a Golf Day to remember them.”
“I am flying over to be a groomsman in a friend’s wedding at the end of September, so figured that while I am in England we could do the Golf Day.”
“I have got the word out to lots of people who know Andy and Dan and we anticipate close to 100 golfers and non golfers will join us at Kings Hill for this special day.”
“For those who will not be teeing it up, there will be a carvery and drinks and lots of amazing raffle prizes to be won.”
“Andy and Dan were big Sports fans and especially keen followers of Kent football, so it made me really happy when I heard that Gillingham, Maidstone United and Ebbsfleet United are all donating a signed football and tickets respectively.”
“Every penny raised will be split between Dan’s charity, “Bloodwise” and Andy’s chosen charity, “Brake”.”
“I would love this to be an annual event. It will be an emotional day, but also a great chance to get family and friends of two of my favorite people together to share stories and memories.”
