Third placed Glebe hosts second placed Sheppey United in an enticing South East Counties Football League Premier Division match on Tuesday evening.
Harry Hudson will be looking to see how resilient his team are following their heartbreak on Saturday. They travelled to Dorset to play Hamworthy United in the F.A. Vase and, despite having a player sent off in the fourth minute, they still went in at half time with a two goal half time lead. Both of the Foxes goals were scored by leading scorer Jamie Philpott.
After the interval, the hosts made their numerical advantage count and halved the deficit, from the penalty spot, just shy of the hour point. Thirteen minutes remained when they levelled but it seemed to be heading for penalties until Hamworthy found a winner with two minutes left.
For Sheppey, Saturday afternoon was a lot more straightforward. They hosted Crowborough Athletic and trounced them six-nil. Warren Mfula scored two in the first fifteen minutes before Billy Bennett added a third from the spot.
Their supporters had to wait nearly fifty minutes for another goal but the Ites scored three more in the last seven minutes. Michael Hagan, Lex Allen and Heige Orome all put their names on the score sheet.
Ernie Batten’s Sheppey have only lost once all season, when they visited Chatham Town, but Glebe have won all eight of their home games and with both teams having scored fifty-six goals, at nearly three goals a game, an open game can be anticipated as was the case when they met in Sheerness at the beginning of December.
On that day Glebe were three up at half time courtesy of goals by Philpott either side of one by Ryan King-Elliott. However it all changed after half time. Liam Gillies pulled one back seven minutes after the break then, just after the hour mark, Ashley Sains scored. When Jefferson Aibangbee levelled eleven minutes still remained but neither side could find the winner.
It is difficult to predict who will claim the spoils this time around but it should be an intriguing watch.
