The FA Cup starts on Saturday and as chance would have it the draw for the Extra Preliminary Round has paired two teams from the same league who only play a few miles apart in the London Borough of Bromley against each other, as SCEFL Premier Division rivals Glebe entertain Holmesdale at Foxbury Avenue.
Both teams started their league campaigns last Saturday with Glebe losing 3-1 away at Deal Town, manager Luke Rooney scoring The Foxes’ goal from a free kick, while Holmesdale drew 1-1 at home to Hollands & Blair, Jacob Skelly with the equaliser for Lee Roots’ Dale side in the second half.
Glebe changed manager in the summer and the man in charge Luke Rooney has built a new squad of players with only a few faces left from last season, while Lee Roots has also brought in a number of new members to his squad ahead of the season.
When the sides met in the league at Foxbury Ave last March, Dale won 1-0, while the reverse fixture a few weeks later saw Glebe run out 4-0 winners at Oakley Road on their way to finishing third in the table.
Before Glebe moved into Foxbury they groundshared with Holmesdale for two seasons while playing in the Kent Invicta League, which later became Division One of The SCEFL, so these clubs are well known to each other on and off the field.
The game looks set to be a great cup tie between two good sides who will both be keen to progress in the FA Cup and make a positive start to the new season, with a home game against Cray Valley PM the prize for the winners in the next round.
The match kicks off at 3pm, entrance is £8 for adults and £5 for concessions, with a printed programme, plus excellent bar & catering facilities.
