Glebe 2-1 Holmesdale
Glebe 2-1 Holmesdale

Substitute Louis Duckering scored a debut winner with five minutes remaining as Glebe beat Holmesdale in a keenly contested Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division derby.

Both Bromley Borough clubs gave their all but it was the hosts who claimed the three points to complete the double.

Kelvin Bakare, who scored a hat-trick in their first meeting, was behind most of Glebe’s early attacking moves and his low cross picked out Harvey Mead whose close range shot was held brilliantly by Dalers goalkeeper Tommy Taylor. Josh Jackson then burst through and let fly. Although Taylor could only push it out, there was nobody following up and the chance was gone.

In the seventeenth minute, the hosts went ahead. Bakare was sent clear down the left hand side and eased inside before slotting it beyond Taylor and inside the far post.

Deandre Williams and Wale Odedoyin were both well off target for Holmesdale and, after Alex Arif had a long shot easily saved by Taylor, the Dalers Callum Taylor shot wide. Williams then danced his way down the right wing and cut in before shooting into the side netting.

Reggie Rye fired across the Holmesdale goal and Jackson, arriving late, tried to turn it home but it bounced off his knee and wide of the post. Alfie Clark had the last chance of the first half for the visitors with a long range shot that was well off target.

Early in the second half Oghosa Williams had a shot from the edge of the penalty area beaten out by Justin Lee before another Arif shot was held comfortably by Taylor. Odedoyin then headed into the path of Oghosa Williams who dragged his shot wide before, at the other end, Bakare timed his run to perfection to break through. Goalkeeper Taylor was alert, though, and held the attempt to flick it past him.

Moments later, Holmesdale scored a deserved equaliser. Clark delivered a free kick and Lewis Heywood-Oriogun got on the end of it to poke it home.

Oghosa Williams again cut in and fired low only to be thwarted by an unorthodox save by Lee who kept it out like a defender clearing off the line with his left boot. Then the Holmesdale captain and centre back, Taylor, went for a spectacular overhead scissors kick that went over.

As the game moved into the last twenty minutes, it went end to end. Substitute Louie Clarke got in behind but was unable to lift it over Lee, then Jack Songhurst sent Jackson clear and Taylor made himself big and held onto the attempt to clip it home.

Again Oghosa Williams moved in from the left but sliced his shot so wide that it went out for a throw before the Foxes scored the winner. Paul Lee played it forward and it sat up kindly for Duckering who had only been on the pitch for eight minutes. However, he needed to be composed to fire his half volley beyond a helpless Taylor.

Jamie Philpot crossed to the far post and Duckering arrived late but the angle was against him and he volleyed wide then Songhurst, who had also come on for his first appearance in a Glebe shirt, played it through to Duckering and he picked out Philpot whose shot came out off the far post.

There were no further chances and it was the hosts who celebrated leapfrogging their local rivals in the league table.
