An enthralling and thoroughly entertaining Southern Counties East Football League game between Glebe and Deal Town ended with the spoils shared and saw Sheppey United promoted.
It was always likely that there would be little to choose between the two clubs occupying third and fourth in the table, but it was less predictable that the first half and the second period would be so different.
For the first forty-five minutes, the two defences dominated, and chances were at a premium. Alfie Foster headed on a long throw from Troy Howard, but George Kamurasi gathered comfortably. At the other end Charlie Penny laid it off to Malachi Hudson and his deep cross picked out Jamie Philpot, but he volleyed just over.
Ben Chapman got free down the right wing for Deal and delivered a deep cross that Billy Munday headed over then, just before the break Sol Baugh sent a free kick wide of the far post.
The second half was far more open and could have easily ended four apiece. Dami Olorunnisomo sent Baugh through one on one, but he slipped his shot beyond the post then Kamurasi made a stunning save from a Howard free kick.
Tom Hever sent Penny away down the right wing and he pulled it back for Philpot, but he shot wide of the near post before repaying the favour by breaking down the left and crossing but Penny was unable to keep his header down.
Baugh drew a comfortable save out of James Tonkin before the hosts broke the deadlock. Penny’s deep pull-back found its way through to Olorunnisomo arriving late and he slotted it home between the Deal goalkeeper and a defender on the line.
Another dangerous Philpot cross was headed over his own bar by Liam Hark before Baugh made space for himself brilliantly only to see his twenty yard shot come back out off the far post.
That proved pivotal as Deal started to enjoy more of the possession and to pile on the pressure. Foster headed down but Rene Rivera stabbed wide from close range then Jack Paxman got through but shot wide of the near post.
Six minutes remained when the Hoops levelled. Another long throw caused problems and it fell to Ben Chapman who fired home from close range.
In injury time, Deal might have claimed a winner when a further long throw found its way across the face of the goal with nobody able to finish.
As a result of the draw, Glebe remain four points clear of Deal having played one game fewer and remain favourites to finish in third place.
