Glebe 0-1 Holmesdale

Reuel Powell-Downey scored the only goal as Holmesdale defeated Glebe in a fascinating Bromley borough derby.

It was a great back to the wall display by the visitors as the Foxes put them under heavy pressure in the second half.

In the opening exchanges, Jamie Philpot chased a long ball but, at full stretch, was unable to guide it goalwards. Ryan King-Elliot then got himself into a good position and hit a shot that took a deflection and went wide for a corner when a square ball to Malachi Hudson might have been the better option.

The corner was defended well and played out to Rory Ward. He drove forward and found Powell-Dorney down the left and he slipped it beyond Reggie Rose and into the bottom corner for the classic counter-attack goal.

King-Elliot created another opportunity for himself, but Holmesdale goalkeeper Nathan Edwards made a great block with his legs. Once more, King-Elliot got in, but his shot went just wide of the far post.

Just before half time, Owen Punselie had a half chance for Holmesdale but fired over.

After the break, Glebe tried to up the pace and won a free kick for a handball just outside the penalty area and Charlie Penny curled it over the wall but also over the crossbar.

Philpot had a shot saved at the near post by Edwards, but the visitors posed a threat on the break and Powell-Downey twice had half chances, first a long shot that Rose saved comfortably, then with a shot that went just beyond the far post.

Substitute Lauris Chin drew a save out of Edwards which he held at the second attempt then Tom Hever hooked over after Philpot brought it down.

Corner after corner were repelled by Holmesdale and only a shot by Dami Olorunnisomo, that flashed over, threatened to breach the defence.

As the game went into stoppage time another Holmesdale break almost brought a second goal, but Punselie dragged his shot wide.

Moments later, referee Richard Myers drew the proceedings to a close with Holmesdale claiming the derby bragging rights, at least until the return meeting on 9th April.
