Gills trialist Njogu Demba-Nyren has left the club and rejoined Danish side Esbjerg fB.

The Gambian international striker has rejoined the Danish 1st division side on a free after he failed to win a deal Priestfield.

The 32-year-old has signed a one year deal with an option to extend after leaving them in the summer of 2007.

Njogu first signed for Esbjerg in 2007 from Greek club Kerkyra F.C. where he was loaned from Panathinaikos in search for playing time.

After putting pen to paper, Njogu said “The club is really close to my heart. I arrived in Esbjerg after having received very little playing time in Greece with Panathinaikos and was an important period because I got time in my career again. I found myself really well at the club and the city that reminds me a bit of Falu BS in Sweden. Since I was in Esbjerg, I’ve become more mature in my game and make smarter decisions on the pitch, and I want to show the young players of this squad.”

The Gambian striker who had trials with Birmingham along with Gillingham was believed to be due to reach a deal with the latter only to make a last-minute U-turn to sign for the Danish side.

Njogu’s former team-mate Jess Thorup, is the head coach of the team and was very happy to welcome him back and believes that the return of Njogu Demba-Nyrén to Denmark should send a sign to other clubs in the league.

“Demba is a gratifying scoop for us. I myself had the pleasure to train and play with him when he was here [before he left], and he gives us more strings to the offensive side. The capture of Njogu should be an important signal to send to other teams, and I have the feeling that it has given the players another moral booster,”

For his part, the Esbjerg’s sporting chief Viggo Jensen is quoted as saying of The Gambian “[Njogu] Demba-Nyrén probably had the best time in his career in Esbjerg fB and he can live up to what he has previously worked at the club, he will clearly strengthen us, as we have several injured attackers. When he’s at his best, he’s hard to beat as he as technical and physical skills, and he is a plus for any team.”

Njogu, who was initially with League one club Notts County, signed for only the rest of the 2011/2012 season, but the Gambian ran out of luck and was subsequently down the pecking order.
