Charlie Lee is suspended for Gillingham’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round tie at home to Barnet on Tuesday night.
The midfielder was shown his fifth yellow card of the season towards the end of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon, in which he netted the Gills’ second-half consolation, and will now serve an automatic one-match ban.
Defender Matt Fish sustained a black eye during the loss at Kingsmeadow and will be assessed.
New arrivals Jo Kuffour and Joe Carter are both eligible for the tie and will be pushing to start after manager Andy Hessenthaler, who must be contemplating changes, likened Saturday’s performance to watching a “circus”.
Defenders Barry Fuller (knee) and Joe Martin (calf), midfielders Danny Spiller (ankle) and Jack Payne (knee) as well as striker Adam Birchall (knee) all continue to miss out.
Hessenthaler could well make wholesale changes for the game as he looks to give some of his fringe players a run out and rest some of his experienced players.
Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, along with striker Stefan Payne seem certain starters after having to keep the bench warm this season.
Therefore, the Gills could line up like this:
Gazzaniga, Fish, Richards, Essam, Carter, Oli, Montrose, Weston, Rooney, Kuffour, S Payne.
Subs: Flitney, Jackman, Frampton, Kedwell, Nouble.
The game kicks off at 7pm and Gillingham will desperate to get back to winning ways having been comfortably beaten at the weekend.
