Gillingham have captured the signature of Indonesian international Elkan Baggott on a season-long loan from Ipswich Town.
Neil Harris has added the centre-back to his squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
The 19-year-old, a commanding presence at 6’4, joined training for the first time on Friday but it remains to be seen if he will feature against Dover at Crabble on Saturday (1pm).
Baggott had a loan spell at King’s Lynn towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign but remained at Portman Road for the 2021/22 season, starting two League 1 games in April against Rotherham and Charlton respectively.
Elkan is a full Indonesian international and has, to date, played 10 times for his country, scoring twice. His most recent appearance was on June 1 against Bangladesh, a game that ended 0-0.
He has been part of the team has helped the country qualify for the Asian Cup which will be contested next summer.
On signing his deal, Baggott said: “I’m very happy to be here, I want to improve myself and the objective for me, and us collectively, is to finish as high up in League 2 as possible.
“It’s a really good vibe, everyone is happy. Friday was a good session and I’m now looking forward to the game tomorrow.
“I’m not afraid to make a tackle, I try my best.”
