Gillingham Football Club have signed West Ham United midfielder Ollie Lee on loan for the next month.

The 20 year old son of former England international, Rob, has been on trial at Priestfield for the past couple of weeks and impressed sufficiently during the midweek reserve game at Chelsea to be offered a more permanent stay with The Gills.

Lee will be spending an initial eight games on loan with Gillingham with a view to staying on a longer basis with Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler having this to say to the club’s offical website:

“He’s got a fantastic upbringing at West Ham and I think he’s been told that he’s perhaps not going to get a deal there, so it gives us an opportunity to have a look at him, get him involved with us and a chance to get into the first-team, so we’ll see where it takes us.”

“He gets up and down. He’s a threat going forward, I’ve got to say, he’s got good legs getting forward, he gets goals and he’s all action, a bit like his dad was and if he turns out anything like his dad, we’ve got a good player.”

“He’s hungry to do well and I think that’s what we need at the moment, some real hungry players, and young players what want to go out there and work their socks off from start to finish.”

“It’s one that certainly could be for the future, that’s the main thing.”

Lee will go straight into Gillingham’s squad that takes on Port Vale on Saturday afternoon as they look to out their four game run of defeats in the league behind them and will wear the number thirty seven shirt during his stay at Priestfield.
