Gills set to ring the changes

Gillingham are set to ring the changes for this weekend’s visit of AFC Wimbledon to Priestfield with Danny Kedwell in contention to start against his former side.

In what will be the Wombles first ever visit to Medway in their new guise, The Gills will be desperate to get back to winning ways after defeat at Shrewsbury Town last weekend.

Andy Hessenthaler has promised changes to the side that capitulated in Shropshire with Joe Martin back from suspension allowing Danny Jackman to push up into his preferred midfield role.

Danny Kedwell is still touch and go to make the starting line up having broken a rib against Stoke City in the FA Cup a fortnight ago, but he will be desperate to face his former side and could partner Jo Kuffour in attack after the former Bristol Rovers man shook off a bout of bronchitis.

With Luke Rooney having now finally departed for Swindon Town, Hessenthaler has to decide on who will form what will probably be a four man midfield with Charlie Lee a possibility to fill in at right back with Matt Lawrence struggling after picking up a knock last weekend.

Matt Fish is definitely out after picking up a shin injury in the reserves goalless draw with Reading in the week, however Simon King is once again pushing for a place in the sixteen man squad.

Therefore, The Gills could line up like this:

Flitney, Lee, Richards, Frampton, Martin, Whelpdale, J Payne, Jackman, Weston, Kuffour, Kedwell.

Subs: Gazzaniga, King, Montrose, Tomlin, S Payne.

The game will be preceeded by a minute’s applause for former Gillingham Director Dave Lee who sadly passed away in the week.

Three points in his honour wouldn’t go amiss this weekend.
