Gills set to pull out of Mill Hill
Gills set to pull out of Mill Hill

Gillingham Football Club are believed to have withdrawn their offer to buy land at Mill Hill following Medway Council’s decision on Chatham Docks.

A council meeting on Wednesday night gave permission for the 26 acre site at Chatham Docks to be developed by Peel Land & Property, creating a £650 million development containing a hotel, a supermarket, houses, office space and event venues over the 26 acre site.

Gillingham Chairman Paul Scally had objected to the scheme, believing that developing the Chatham Docks site could force the club to look to move outside of Medway.

With a superstore (Asda), likely to be built at Chatham Docks, Scally has stated that he wouldn’t be in a position to develop the site at Mill Hill without the backing of another food superstore.

Following the decision taken by the council, Kent Sports News have been informed by residents close to the Mill Hill site that Gillingham Football Club have withdrawn any offers made to local landowners.

That news seems to leave the long term future of the club in some doubt with a move to Mill Hill now seemingly put on the back burner.
