Gillingham have announced that they have parted company with manager Mark Bonner after less than nine months in charge.
Mark arrived at MEMS Priestfield Stadium in May 2024 following the departure of Stephen Clemence and managed 28 games across all competitions.
After an excellent start to the season that saw The Gills leading League Two, a dreadful run has seen them drop to mid table.
Of the 23 league games that Bonner was in charge, Gillingham won just 9 of them, drawing three and losing eleven, scoring only 22 goals and conceding the 24.
Managing Director, Joe Comper said: “Mark is a top guy, a top professional and has given absolutely everything he could have given to help the club succeed.
“We liked him from the moment we met him, and we still do, which makes this decision even tougher.
“The staff have thoroughly enjoyed working with him, however, we felt if we were going to achieve something this season with what we believe to be a very talented group of players, we needed to make a change to give us the best possible opportunity of getting to where we want to be come the start of May.
“With regret we have decided to part company. I would like to place on record my thanks to Mark and I wish every success for the future.”
The club have also confirmed that Assistant Manager, Anthony Hayes, will also leave his role.
Bonner has overseen a recent run of poor form that has seen The Gills drop to 14th place in League Two and after Sunday afternoon’s game at Chesterfield was postponed, the club have decided now is the time to make a managerial change.
Fans might not have to wait long to see who Bonner’s replacement will be with the club expected to make an announcement later on this evening.
