Gills managerial search goes on

The search for the new Gillingham manager continues as the club look for the right man to replace Andy Hessenthaler.

Almost a month after Hessenthaler was relieved of his duties at Priestfield and subsequently taking on the role of Director of Football at The Gills, thus far his replacement has yet to be announced as fans begin to become impatient to find out who will lead them next season.

With the new fixtures out in just over a week’s time on Monday 18th at 9am, fans have been clammering to find out the identity of who is in the frame, let alone who the new man will be.

A variety of names have been linked with the job over the past couple of weeks with the bookies’ favourite changing almost on a daily basis.

Martin Allen is current favourite with Sky Bet at 3/1 on after plenty of punters backed the former Barnet man to take over at Priestfield with former Nea Salomina boss Stephen Constantine seeing his odds go out to 5/1 after sources close to the former Millwall coach revealed he hadn’t even been interviewed for the job.

Other names still in the frame are former Gills boss Peter Taylor, former Bristol City manager Keith Millen and Port Vale’s current manager Micky Adams.

Despite Lee Clark being linked with the vacant position at Gillingham, he is odds on favourite to take over at Birmingham City.

It is widely expected that an announcement will be made in the coming days as preparations carry on at pace for the club’s pre-season plans.

Gillingham will be heading to France for a week in July as part of their pre-season warm up with the club currently looking for someone that can help them out with two minibuses between Wednesday 11th and Wednesday 18th July.
