Gillingham have made their first signing of the January transfer window and under new manager John Coleman by bringing in Crystal Palace youngster Asher Agbinone on loan.
The 19-year-old forward made his Premier League debut for the Eagles in October, coming on as a substitute in the second-half against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in place of Daichi Kamada, and he is eligible for selection ahead of Saturday’s home game against Fleetwood Town.
Agbinone came through the youth ranks at Selhurst Park, joining the Palace academy at the age of nine, and signed his first professional contract in 2022.
The teenager played against the Gills earlier this season, starting in Palace’s 3-1 win in the EFL Trophy at ME7 in September, having made his professional debut a month earlier against Stevenage in the same competition.
Last summer he joined the Crystal Palace first-team for fixtures in the United States, scoring against Wolves to secure a 3-1 win in Maryland.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Asher said: “I am really excited to see the Gills fans and hopefully I can make my mark, be exciting, entertain, and bring some points to the team.
“I feel like it is the perfect time for me, and the perfect place, to continue my development under the new Gaffer.”
