Gillingham head to Brisbane Road looking to cause a cup upset and step that one stage closer to one of England’s big guns.
Victory over Leyton Orient in Saturday’s FA Cup Second Round match could see The Gills paired with one of the biggest names in football, so victory could be a lucrative incentive.
Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler has warned his players not to get too complacent and think anything other than beating the O’s, but surely his side will be thinking that a win could see them paired with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.
Hessenthaler’s side go into the game on the back of a five game unbeaten run, so will head to the Matchroom Stadium full of confidence and of the belief that beating Leyton Orient is easily achievable.
They will make the journey to East London once again without strikers Frank Nouble and Jo Kuffour, so there is every chance that Hessenthaler will switch to the 4-5-1 formation that served them so well in the 3-3 First Round game at Bournemouth.
Matt Lawrence will also be missing after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the goalless draw with Bradford last weekend, so Hessenthaler will be forced to make at least three changes to his side.
Chris Whelpdale will undoubtedly come back into the side after overcoming a bout of illness that forced him out of the draw with Bradford, while Danny Jackman still remains a doubt with a groin injury.
Garry Richards is fit after recovering from a minor rib injury and will partner Andy Frampton in the heart of the defence, while it is unclear who will slot in at right back with Lawrence missing.
The two main options are Charlie Lee who played there so well for a few games, or bringing Matt Fish back into the side.
Whoever plays and wherever they play, Hessenthaler is looking for the same level of performance at Bournemouth that was one of The Gills best performances of the season.
Gills could line up like this:
Flitney, Fish, Richards, Frampton, Martin, Whelpdale, Weston, J Payne, Lee, Jackman, Kedwell.
Subs: Gazzaniga, King, Evans, Rance, Montrose, Oli, S Payne.
