Gills looking for winning return

Gillingham will be looking to get back to winning ways when they make the short trip to play Southend United on Tuesday night.

Having taken just the one point from a possible nine, Gillingham have dropped to eighth in League Two and they will be desperate to arrest that slide when they travel to Roots Hall.

Andy Hessenthaler’s side have somehow gone off the boil in recent matches having started the new campaign in sensational fashion and they will be keen to rediscover that form over in Essex.

The good news for Hessenthaler is that he should have striker Danny Kedwell available for selection having limped off against Accrington Stanley at the weekend.

One man he will have to do without is midfielder Curtis Weston as he becomes the latest injury victim joining Adam Birchall, Jack Payne and Paulo Gazzaniga on the sidelines.

Captain Andy Frampton is rated as 50/50 for the game, but if he is fit enough then he could well replace Garry Richards in the side despite the former Southend man having a decent game against Accrington.

Danny Spiller is also pushing for a recall to the starting eleven with Danny Jackman having failed to impress in the past couple of games.

Whoever plays, there will need to be more energy and enthusiasm shown than on show at Priestfield at the weekend.

As Hessenthaler has admitted, something is missing at the moment, although most fans would probably say that missing ingredient is a new striker and that seems to be something unlikely to have happened before Tuesday’s game.

Therefore, The Gills could line up like this:

Flitney, Fuller, Lawrence, Frampton, Martin, Whelpdale, Lee, Montrose, Spiller, Rooney, Kedwell.

Subs: Fish, Richards, Jackman, Oli, S Payne.
