Gillingham begin 2012 with a chance to cement their play-off position when Aldershot visit Priestfield on Monday afternoon.
Defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge on Friday night saw The Gills finish 2011 in sixth spot in League Two, just four points behind Southend United in third place and a win against Dean Holdsworth’s side on Monday could see them climb as high as fourth.
More importantly, it would give them a morale boost going into next Saturday’s FA Cup Third Round tie against Stoke City.
The good news for Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler is that he will have Charlie Lee back available for selection having served the second game of his two match suspension with the former Peterborough man likely to slot back into right back.
That could be one of two changes to the side that lost against the Daggers with Matt Lawrence the man most likely to make way.
Lewis Montrose is pushing for a place in the starting eleven, with Luke Rooney serving the second game of his suspension having been sent off at Crawley on Boxing Day.
Much will depend on whether The Gills have managed to secure the loan or permanent signing of striker Jo Kuffour who played his last game against Dagenham, even though he was suffering from bronchitis.
If Gillingham fail to tie up a deal in time, Stefan Payne seems the most likely option to partner Danny Kedwell in attack as the home side push for all three points.
Kedwell picked up a knock at Dagenham but is expected to be fit, with Joe Martin nursing a slight calf strain, but again he should be ok to start.
Therefore, The Gills could line up like this:
Flitney, Lee, Richards, Frampton, Martin, Whelpdale, J Payne, Weston, Jackman, S Payne, Kedwell.
Subs: Gazzaniga, Lawrence, King, Montrose, Oli.
