Gillingham have held talks with Altrincham striker Damian Reeves and he will play against Dartford on Saturday.
The 26 year old striker has been attracting a lot of attention after scoring 63 goals in 79 starts, scoring 44 goals in the Blue Square Bet North league last season.
Reeves has been watched by a number of clubs in recent months with Championship clubs believed to have watched the hotshot, but The Gills now appear to be in pole position for his services with Altrincham confirming that he held talks with Gills boss Martin Allen on Tuesday and as a result will line up in the friendly against the Darts on Saturday.
The prolific frontman will be given the chance to impress when he lines up against the Conference Premier side with a view to earning a deal at Priestfield.
As yet, Reeves hasn’t played professional football and started his career at non league side Farsley before signing for Histon in the summer of 2008.
He then spent eighteen months at Northwich, but it was the past two seasons at Altrincham that has seen him come to the attention of scouts with Doncaster Rovers also believed to have been interested in securing his services.
With the transfers of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga and midfielder Jack Payne expected to raise some funds for The Gills, they could well be in the market for a number of players.
Gazzaniga has been linked with a move to Premier League side Southampton with Tommy Forecast moving in the opposite direction, whilst Payne has been linked with a move to Reading.
Meanwhile, former Gillingham captain Michael Flynn won’t be making a return to Priestfield after manager Martin Allen confirmed he wouldn’t be following up the initial interest shown in the midfielder who went on the training camp to Le Touquet.
