Gills linked with move for Adams

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally has dismissed claims the club have made an approach for Port Vale manager Micky Adams.

Vale took to their official Twitter page on Friday to state they had rejected a move for Adams from Gillingham, who relieved boss Andy Hessenthaler of his duties at the end of the season.

They tweeted: “Port Vale have refused permission for Gillingham to speak to the club’s manager Micky Adams #pvfc”

However, Scally distanced Gillingham from the statement, telling BBC Kent it was “complete rubbish” before refusing to comment further.

Adams began his playing career with Gillingham in 1979 and enjoyed four years at the Priestfield Stadium. He guided Vale to mid-table in League Two last term despite the Stoke-on-Trent outfit entering administration.

Gillingham are expected to try and appoint their new manager next week with a number of other names in the frame. Mark Robson, Martin Allen, Andy Scott and Keith Millen are all believed to have been interviewed so far.
