Gills Ladies will take part in a football match in memory of Kaine May who was tragically killed in July 2011.Gills Ladies v Charlton4

The 14-year-old who was himself a keen footballer, playing for Chelsea was killed when he was hit by a car outside of Flamingo Park on the borders of Chislehurst and Sidcup, when on his way to a fayre.

Gills Ladies as yet do not know their opponents; the team will be picked by Kaine’s best friend Kieran Owusu, who has helped organise the event.

The match will be played at the home of Kaine’s former team Sutton Dynamo’s at the Hone Ground, Parsonage Lane on Saturday May 4th. Not only was Kaine friends with Gills Ladies player Hannah Gauci but he was also taught by manager James Marrs when we was a pupil at Kemnal Technology College.

Kaine’s Day will start 11am and has a number of activities going on including a bouncy castle, face painting, with stalls selling memorial wristbands, cakes and sweets.  There will also be a DJ, a raffle and an auction and it will be rounded off with the grand finale of a balloon release.

Hannah who plays for the Reserve team has been helping Kaine’s family to organise the event, and she explained why it means so much to her.

“I wanted to do something positive to make a real difference hence the idea of Kaine’s Day. Kaine was interested in so many things so an annual day would mean we could change or add things we knew he liked each year.

“Kaine was such a huge character who just lit up any situation when he was with us. When he died, his family never thought it possible for Kaine to do that again. By arranging this day, he’s continuing to touch the lives of so many people in such a positive way – exactly how he did when he was with us. That’s why I am doing it. I am keeping his memory alive. We miss him deeply and this means we can continue his legacy.”

Donations can be made by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/KaineMay with all money raised going to Brake, the road safety charity who were instrumental in helping Kaine’s family. Funds will also go to the Kaine May Trust, which was set up by his parents Lee and Renee to build a peaceful area in Kaine’s former school.
