Martin Allen has told KSN he won’t be taking another look at trialists Bernard Itoua and Mikael after they played against Dover on Tuesday night.
The French pair were both named in the starting line up for the game against the Whites at The Crabble, but neither reappeared for the second half after lacklustre performances.
Itoua had played the full ninety minutes against Ebbsfleet United at Stonebridge Road on Saturday afternoon and had done enough to warrant another look, but speaking to KSN after the game on Tuesday night, Gills boss Martin Allen confirmed he wouldn’t be offering either player a contract:
“I thought they both did ok, but we won’t be offering them future contracts at the club. I had to change things at half time as I wanted things sharpened up a bit and we got that in the second half.”
Having made the decision on the pair, Allen went on to say how he thought some of the club’s promising youngsters may well be the answer:
“It is fair to say that the lad Brown and Evans both came on with speed and energy, a positive attitude and they both lifted our team. That was great to see and that was a boost for all of us.”
“We want to be positive, but in the first half we weren’t and we were too near the halfway line and around the centre circle. With all due respect, I could have played and done that.”
“In the second half there was a lot more penetration, a lot more pace, a lot more power and you’ve got to have players willing to go in behind and in the second half we really did that.”
