Gillingham Football Club have recalled defenders Jack Evans and Connor Essam ahead of this weekend’s game with Hereford United.
Evans has been recalled from his loan spell at Welling United where he has made seven appearances since his debut for the Wings against Basingstoke on Tuesday 13th December, with his last appearance in a Welling shirt being against Chelmsford City last weekend.
As for Essam, he has been instrumental in Dartford climbing the Blue Square Bet South league table into second place.
The talented central defender was set to spend a second month on loan at Princes Park, however Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler has seen the need to recall him to Priestfield.
Both Evans and Essam could go straight into the sixteen man squad for this weekend’s game against Hereford United and could be in contention for their first starts for the club.
Evans has made one substitute appearance for The Gills in the 5-2 win over Torquay United back in October, whilst Essam is yet to make his first team debut.
The pair have been recalled to Priestfield due to injuries to other key personnel. Simon King misses this weekend’s game after having had two injections in an ankle injury and Charlie Lee is rated as doubtful after picking up a knock.
Meanwhile, four Gills youth team players have been allowed to go out on work experience to get some much needed match practice.
Jake Hessenthaler and Josh Hare have joined Ryman League South side Whitstable Town with Jack Parter and Bradley Dack having joined Ramsgate.
