Gillingham are believed to be close to adding two more players to their squad ahead of the new League Two season.
Neil Harris has had a measured approach to bringing new faces to Priestfield this summer and some fans have started to get anxious as to how small the squad is.
With a 2-0 loss to Dover Athletic last weekend behind them, Gills fans could be forgiven for thinking the campaign ahead could be a long one.
However, Harris has been busy in the background looking at a number of trialists and on Wednesday afternoon, his side played a behind closed doors friendly with Championship side Luton Town, losing 2-1.
One player that took to the field for The Gills is Peterborough United winger Kai Corbett and it’s believed the two clubs are looking at a loan deal for the 19 year old who spent the majority of his youth at West Ham United having been born in Barcelona.
The addition of Corbett will give The Gills some much needed cutting edge going forward, but having made just one senior appearance, he is certainly a raw talent.
Another player heavily linked with a move to Priestfield is former Shrewsbury Town and Wycombe Wanderers centre back Aaron Pierre.
The 29 year old Grenada international would come to Gillingham with a wealth of experience and could be the partner for Max Ehmer at the back that Harris has been desperately looking for.
Pierre has over 300 appearances under his belt for Wycombe Wanderers, Northampton Town and Shrewsbury Town and has an eye for goal from set pieces.
The one stumbling block would be whether Gillingham can get the deal over the line with negotiations between the two sides believed to be ongoing.
Adding Corbett and Pierre to the Gillingham squad will undoubtedly add strength and depth with Portsmouth coming to Priestfield on Saturday for the latest pre-season friendly. Kick off is at 1pm.
