Gillingham have captured the signing of goalkeeper Jack Bonham on a two-year contract.

The 25-year-old, and Republic of Ireland U17 international, put pen to paper on Tuesday afternoon before Manager Steve Evans announced the signing at his Q & A session later that day.

Bonham, who was released by Championship club Brentford last month, spent last season on loan at Bristol Rovers and kept a clean sheet at Priestfield when the Gas ran out 1-0 winners in Kent thanks to a stunning effort from Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Jack, who stands at 6’4, comes in as a replacement for Tomas Holy who signed for Ipswich Town last week.

Bonham began his career in the youth ranks at Watford and made his debut in May 2013 as a first half substitute for the Hornets at Vicarage Road. Leeds ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Dominic Poloen and Ross McCormack.

The next month he signed for Brentford on a two-year deal but, with first team chances limited, he went out on loan to both Arlesey Town and Carlisle United prior to joining Bristol Rovers for the 2017/18 campaign. He made 46 appearances in all competitions while at the Memorial Stadium, keeping an impressive 18 clean sheets.

On joining the Gills, Jack said: “I am delighted to get the deal done, it’s been going on for a couple of weeks now and just thankful to get it over the line. I’m excited for the start of the season.

“I’d like to think of myself as a consistent goalkeeper. I’ve still got things to work on and get better at, but hopefully I bring my best to Gillingham.”
