Gillingham have added a goalkeeper to their squad with the capture of Swedish international, Pontus Dahlberg, on loan for the rest of the season.
The 22-year-old, who will be 23 next week, began his career with Älvängens IK and had been on loan with Doncaster Rovers but his parent club, Watford, have recalled him to allow Pontus to join Gills for the remainder of the season.
Dahlberg signed for IFK Göteborg in 2015 before agreeing a five-and-a-half year contract with the Hornets in January 2018.
He has since enjoyed loan spells with FC Emmen (Holland), BK Häcken (Sweden) and Doncaster, where he played against the Gills in October.
Dahlberg has been brought to Priestfield having kept four clean sheets in 20 appearances for Doncaster Rovers in League One this season.
A replacement for Jamie Cumming who left Gillingham on Thursday to join Milton Keynes Dons on loan, Dahlberg has big boots to fill and is expected to start against Burton Albion at Priestfield on Saturday.
Dahlberg’s last game for Doncaster Rovers was their 1-0 loss at home to Fleetwood Town last Saturday, a defeat that saw Rovers bottom of League One, just one place behind The Gills.
The Swedish shot stopper played at Priestfield earlier this season as Gillingham beat Doncaster Rovers 1-0 in League One.
