Gillingham will get their 2020/21 FA Cup campaign underway on Saturday when they host National League side Woking.
The Gills reached the third round of the competition last year before losing 2-0 to Premier League West Ham United in front of the TV cameras, and they will be aiming for another run this term ahead of the tie.
Steve Evans’ side go into the game of the back of a win. They defeated Crewe Alexandra 1-0 in League One on Tuesday night, but five defeats in a row preceded that. Evans will be hoping a win against lower league opposition here can help build momentum to get their league campaign back on track.
The Gills will welcome back goalkeeper Jack Bonham for the game. The Irish stopper missed the last two games with concussion, but he is now available for selection again, with emergency loanee goalkeeper Joe Lumley heading back to parent club QPR.
Josh Eccles also makes his way back into the fold after missing the last two games following the birth of his child.
Apart from long-term absentees Jacob Mellis and Stuart O’Keefe, Steve Evans could have a fully fit squad to choose from for the first time in a long time. Alex MacDonald remains suspended, but the Gills boss has plenty of options ahead of the game, and is expected to make changes.
A familiar face will be returning to Priestifled for the game in the form of Matt Jarvis. The now-34-year-old made made 122 appearances for the Gills between 2003 and 2007 after graduating from their academy, and went on to play in the Premier League and for England. He is expected to start out wide for Woking on Saturday.
The Gills’ visitors sit ninth in the National League table after seven games with three wins, a draw and three losses to their name. They may be the lower-ranked side, but make no doubts they will aiming to cause an upset on Saturday.
Fans cannot attend the game in person, but an iFollow pass can be purchased for £10 to stream the game live via Gillingham’s website.
Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 BST.
