Gillingham will host Portsmouth in League One action this evening with the aim of bouncing back from their 2-0 defeat at MK Dons on Saturday.
Steve Evans’ side slipped out of the play-off places in League One after the game – which was just their second league loss of the season – and will be hoping the defeat was just a blip in a good run of form.
Midfielder – and goalscorer just over a week ago against Oxford – Jacob Mellis should be available for selection after missing the MK Dons defeat through a non-COVID-related illness, however captain Kyle Dempsey, who made just his second start of the Gills’ league campaign on Saturday after picking up an injury on the opening day, will have to be assessed after receiving a knock in Milton Keynes.
Southampton loanee Tom O’Connor missed out on Saturday. Gillingham have six loan players and can only name five in a match day squad, so, with O’Connor having been away on intentional duty but not playing, Evans opted to leave the Irishman out on Saturday. He is, though, available for selection.
Matty Willock could featured as he recovers from a hamstring injury, with Stuart O’Keefe a long-term absentee.
Portsmouth will be without forward Ellis Harrison after he picked up a knock in their last game, potentially paving the way for former Gills favourite John Marquis to start a against one of his former clubs.
Apart from Harrison, Pompey manager Kenny Jackett has no injury issues.
Gillingham’s visitors currently sit 10th in League One, just two points behind the Gills. They have two wins, two draws and two defeats to their name, and lost their last match – 1-0 at home to Doncaster – on Saturday.
Fans of course will not be able to attend the game, but an iFollow pass can be purchased via either club’s website for £10, which will allow fans to live stream the match.
Gillingham season ticket holders can watch for free via a code received from the club.
Kick-off is scheduled for 18:30 BST.
