Gillingham will be without striker Rory Donnelly for the visit of Oldham Athletic as he starts a two-match suspension.

Australian defensive midfielder Chris Herd impressed when making his debut in the midweek Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Milwall, so the former Aston Villa trainee could come into contention for a league start.

Captain Josh Wright and midfielder Jake Hessenthaler could both also be back in Justin Edinburgh’s plans, while forward Frank Nouble has signed a short-term deal with the Gills and may feature after receiving his international clearance to play.

Midfielders Scott Wagstaff (calf) and Bradley Dack (hamstring) will be assessed, but both trained on Friday morning, while striker Cody McDonald also trained despite having a slight heel injury.

Defender Ryan Jackson (hip) continues his recovery and could feature, whilst striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas should play despite having a slight knee injury.

Full-back Bradley Garmston (knee), defender Aaron Morris (knee) and midfielder Lee Martin (ankle) remain sidelined, whilst Paul Konchesky is set to return having missed Tuesday night’s game as he nursed a slight calf problem.

Bottom side Oldham are without three players for the trip to Priestfield due to international call-ups.

Defenders Cameron Dummigan and Ryan McLaughlin are both away with Northern Ireland Under-21s, while forward Calaum Jahraldo-Martin is playing for Antigua and Barbuda.

Manager Stephen Robinson is likely to keep faith with striker Billy McKay after his goal in the much-needed Checkatrade Trophy win at Fleetwood in midweek.
