Gillingham vs Blackpool – Preview

Gillingham take a break from the league this weekend as they host a club legend as Steve Bruce brings his Blackpool team to ME7 in the first round of the FA Cup.

It might well be a welcome break from the league pressures for manager Mark Bonner and his coaching staff, as he looks to take the Gills into the second round of the cup, against League One opposition.

They go into the game on the back of taking just one point during October, and will be hoping that the FA Cup can kick their November fixtures off with a victory, to get the momentum rolling going into their league fixture at home to Port Vale next weekend.

Blackpool come into the fixture on the back of a thumping defeat against Peterborough United, before rescuing a point with a last minute equaliser against Wigan Athletic on Monday evening. Like the Gills, Bruce’s side have not won in the League in October.

Bruce will be back in the dugout this weekend following the tragic death of his grandson, and he will be sure to receive a warm welcome from both sets of supporters.

In terms of injury concerns for the Gills, there was some good news for the Gills boss with Glenn Morris being fit and back in contention for the weekend.

Armani Little is also back fit and could well play some part in the weekend fixture. Josh Andrews is back fit but his minutes will be managed carefully as he gets back up to match fitness. Max Clark also returns from suspension.
