Gillingham v Salford City preview

Gillingham will be hoping it’s not six games without a league goal when Salford City come to Priestfield on Saturday.

The fixture has been pulled forward to a 12:30pm kick off and The Gills will be hoping it gifts them a change of fortune as their shot shy side go into the game sitting second from bottom in League Two.

Defender Dave Tutonda has returned to training ahead of the game. The left-back is fit again after a knee operation in mid-October but may not rejoin the squad immediately.

Forward Callum Harriott is still “a few weeks away” having joined on a short-term contract last week.

Olly Lee’s fitness is improving having trained for a week after recovering from a broken toe.

Salford will have had 11 days without a game since their last outing in the Papa John’s Trophy last week.

Midfielder Elliot Watt went off injured in that victory and could be doubtful for the trip to Kent.

Forward Conor McAleny needs more game time after two 10-minute substitute appearances following his comeback from injury.

However, Stevie Mallan, Liam Shephard and Jason Lowe are all likely to remain sidelined.

With talk of the takeover at Priestfield gathering pace and fans hoping a new dawn will emerge at the club in the coming weeks under American Brad Galinson, a win this weekend will calm a lot of nerves.

Players are clearly playing for their futures, takeover or not, so fans will be hoping to see an improved performance from their side.
