Gillingham will be going all out to secure three points at home to Port Vale on Saturday.

Gills v Cov

Following Tuesday night’s 2-1 loss to Walsall at Priestfield on Tuesday night, The Gills have been licking their wounds and putting the defeat behind them.

The loss has seen the Kent side drop to sixth place in League One, just three points above Barnsley in seventh and with one eye now firmly set on trying to secure their play-off place.

With only five games left to play this season and an automatic promotion spot seemingly unlikely, The Gills must turn their attention to securing a top six spot at the very least.

Their task though this weekend will be a little harder as they will be without the services of Adam El-Abd (groin) or Dominic Samuel (knee).

Midfielder George Williams is rated as doubtful, whilst club captain Doug Loft (achilles) will once again be missing.

The absence of El-Abd could well see a recall to the starting eleven for John Egan with manager Justin Edinburgh weighing up his options ahead of the clash with Port Vale.

Fans may well see a change in not only personnel, but system as The Gills all out for a win against a Port Vale side that have very little to play for between now and the end of the season.

However, Port Vale boss Rob Page has warned his players he will not accept them taking their foot off the gas as their season draws to a close.

Vale have four games left but their hopes of promotion are effectively over, as they sit 12th, nine points adrift of the play-offs.

Midfielder Michael O’Connor returned from a thigh injury to play 82 minutes in the win over Crewe last weekend and is likely to keep his place. The victory was Vale’s first in five matches.
