Gillingham go into Saturday’s League Two clash with Mansfield Town knowing anything less than a win won’t be good enough.
Neil Harris’ side have flattered to deceive this season, struggling to score and losing on an almost regular basis.
However, there were a few glimmers of hope on Tuesday night when Mikael Mandron’s equaliser helped the side to a 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town.
The point however wasn’t enough to stop the side from edging closer to the League Two relegation zone and non league football isn’t beyond the realms of possibility if the side carry on as they are.
For Harris, he knows his side need to improve and fast, saying:
“I was really pleased for the team on Tuesday, but we need to find more ways to score. It’s my job to get the most out of the players.”
“Mansfield have good players at the level. We know it will be another stern test. We can’t wait to get going.”
“We feel we are improving as a group. We know we are close.”
“Haji (Mnoga) is back available this weekend. While with us it’s down to me to educate him. We need to make sure we start well Saturday.”
“Kashy (Scott Kashket) came off at half-time on Tuesday. I’m not sure he will be ready for Saturday but we will give him every opportunity. “Olly (Lee) has had an issue with his foot, he trained today. Dom’s (Jefferies) is a quad injury.”
Should the trio be out, Harris is likely to start with the side that started the second half at Grimsby. That would see Jordan Green replace Kashket in the starting line up with Robbie McKenzie back for another home debut having impressed on the right of defence on Tuesday night.
