Gillingham v Luton Town preview

Steve Lovell will have a fully fit squad in which to choose from as Gillingham entertain Luton Town in Legaue One on Saturday.

Midfielders Callum Reilly and Dean Parrett are both back from injury, whilst striker Josh Parker is back from international duty giving Lovell plenty of options for the clash at Priestfield.

Having overcome Hartlepool United 4-3 after extra time in the FA Cup 1st Round replay on Wednesday night, Lovell and his charges must turn their attention back to the league and will be desperate for three vital points as they look to pull clear from the bottom four.

Gillingham’s starting eleven has almost picked itself in recent weeks, but with so many options at his disposal, Lovell may be tempted to freshen things up with Parker and Elliott List pushing for a starting eleven place.

List impressed after coming off the bench at Hartlepool, whilst Parker will be looking to challenge Brandon Hanlan for a starting spot.

Whichever side Lovell selects, the Gills boss is hoping his side can keep things tight at the back and start being clinical in front of goal:

“We need to stop giving silly goals away.”

“Luton are a good side and we know what to expect. We have to be on top form.”

“Tomas Holy has been excellent this year. He’s had a couple of blips, but so does everybody.”

Danny Hylton completes his four-game ban for Luton. The striker saw red against Rochdale earlier this season and was handed a hefty suspension.

Winger Luke Berry continues to miss out with a knee injury. Boss Nathan Jones has no other worries as his side aim to build on their 5-1 hammering of Plymouth last week.

This is the first league meeting between Gillingham and Luton since March 2009, a goalless draw in League Two.

Luton last faced Gillingham in August 2016, a 2-1 win for the Hatters in the Football League Trophy.

Gillingham have won two of their last three home league games (L1) – as many victories as they managed in their previous 14 League One matches at the Priestfield Stadium.

Luton have scored at least two goals in eight of their last nine league games (W6 D2 L1), netting 22 goals in total during this period.

Gillingham’s Tom Eaves has scored 20 goals in League One this calendar year, more than any other player.

Luton go into the game sitting 5th in League One, with The Gills 19th.

Both sides will be going for a win, so it could lead to an open, exciting, entertaining game of football.
