Gillingham v Grimsby Town preview

Gillingham will look to cement their place at the top of League Two with another three points tonight as Grimsby Town come to Priestfield.

Following Saturday’s convincing 2-0 win over title rivals Barrow at home, Mark Bonner’s side go into this evening’s clash knowing another victory will secure them top spot going into the weekend.

Under Bonner, Gillingham have been a much different side from last season, playing more on the front foot, creating chances and entertaining the crowds that have come back to support their side.

Bonner will have a few decisions to make as to who features this evening though with Bradley Dack unlikely to be risked despite having come off the bench to feature against Barrow.

The return of Dack has given the whole club a lift, but he may be rested ahead of the weekend and Bonner is likely to keep faith with the side that started against Barrow.

With Jake Turner still injured, Glenn Morris is set to start in goal with the back four of Hutton, Ogie, Ehmer and Clark looking settled, so Bonner is unlikely to make changes at the back, especially given Gillingham have one of the meanest defences in European football this season.

Armani Little has had an excellent start to the new campaign and is pulling the strings in the Gillingham midfield with Robbie McKenzie adding that bit of bite that keeps things moving forwards.

Under Bonner, Jayden Clarke has had a real renewed sense of life and is looking a real threat going forward, something many fans have been surprised by.

Goals are coming from all areas of the pitch and with an abundance of options now on the bench, Gills fans will be hoping they see more goals tonight and another three points.

Grimsby Town come into the game on the back of back to back wins with a 3-2 victory at Carlisle United on Saturday having won 1-0 at home to Bromley the previous weekend.

Sitting 11th in the league, just a point outside the play-off places, the visitors will fancy their chances of pulling off a shock at Priestfield.
