Gillingham v Dagenham & Redbridge Preview
Gillingham v Dagenham & Redbridge Preview

It’s all about three points for Gillingham as they entertain Dagenham & Redbridge at Priestfield on Easter Monday.

Friday afternoon’s point at Bristol Rovers, combined with Oxford United’s loss at Northampton Town has seen The Gills within just three points of the play-off places and a win against The Daggers could see them climb back into the top seven.

Knowing that his side needs all three points, Andy Hessenthaler is likely to keep faith with the same eleven that started on Friday with Rowan Vine expected to partner Danny Kedwell in attack once again.

Meanwhile, Jo Kuffour is expected to have a fitness test ahead of the game to see if he can take his place in the sixteen man squad.

Should he fail to make it, Hessenthaler will most likely keep faith with the same five substitutes with Dennis Oli among those looking to come on and change the game just as he did against the Pirates with a last minute goal.

Fit-again midfielder Danny Spiller continues to press his claims for a start should Hessenthaler look to freshen up his ranks with two games in 72 hours.

On-loan forward Gavin Tomlin (hamstring) is close to his return but a clause in his loan agreement prevents him from lining up against his parent club anyway.

Charlie Lee (ankle) is also nearing a comeback and will be monitored but Simon King (ankle), Garry Richards (fractured leg), Callum Davies (hand), Adam Birchall, Curtis Weston and Ross Flitney (all knee) remain unavailable.

Therefore, The Gills could line up like this:

Gazzaniga, Fish, Essam, Frampton, Martin, Whelpdale, J Payne, Montrose, Jackman, Vine, Kedwell.

Subs: Evans, Spiller, Miller, O Lee, Oli.

As for Dagenham, Billy Bingham and Jon Nurse will be pushing for recalls.

Midfielder Bingham and forward Nurse both made way for Good Friday’s 1-1 draw against Burton, with Dominic Green and John Akinde coming in, and the pair will be keen to reclaim spots in John Still’s starting XI.

Midfielders Peter Gain and Luke Howell (both knee) will be monitored again as they look to make their first-team returns having stepped up their respective comebacks.

Matt Saunders (ankle), Sam Williams (knee) and Kevin Maher (foot) have been ruled out for the rest of the season.

If ever there was a game Gillingham needed to win, this is it. Now is the time for the side to stand up and be counted.
