Gillingham will look at make it back to back home League One wins when Cambridge United come to Priestfield this evening.
An upsurge in the level of performance under new manager Neil Harris was rewarded with three points against Crewe Alexandra a week ago and despite losing 1-0 at Ipswich Town on Saturday, The Gills gave a much better account of themselves.
Still entrenched in the League One relegation zone, Gillingham know realistically this is a must win game and anything less will be seen as failing to pick up points when needed.
Harris could go into the game without both Danny Lloyd and Mustapha Carayol with the pair having picked up injuries in the previous two matches.
If both are missing, Harris must decide who spearheads the attacking threat for The Gills, a side that have failed to score on too many occasions this season.
Charlie Kelman is most likely to partner Vadaine Oliver in attack with home fans going to be treated with seeing Ben Thompson in the flesh for the first time, having made his debut at Ipswich. The former Millwall midfielder looks like a great replacement for Kyle Dempsey and gives the side a more attacking edge to their game.
With Ben Reeves and Alex MacDonald still missing through injury, Harris’ options are limited, but he will hope that having been at the club for over a week now, that he can get the most out of an under performing squad.
Whoever takes to the field, The Gills will enjoy a lot more support than they had under Steve Evans with fans seemingly still happy to vent their frustration at chairman Paul Scally, whilst supporting those on the Priestfield pitch.
Lose tonight and fans will begin to wonder what life in League Two will be like next season, however should they win, there will be a real sense of optimism that avoiding relegation is a realistic aim.
