Gillingham v Blackburn Rovers preview

Gillingham should be able to call on Bradley Garmston and Connor Ogilvie for the visit of leaders Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The pair have been struggling with illness but are fine to be involved against Rovers. Rhys Murphy and Liam Nash are still unwell, however. Midfielder Billy Bingham (broken ankle) and defender Aaron Morris (knee) are also still missing.

Boss Steve Lovell has a decision to make up front after he took off striker Tom Eaves at half-time of the 3-1 comeback win at Portsmouth last week and replaced him with Conor Wilkinson, who found the net.

Blackburn will be without Ryan Nyambe as they aim to maintain their lead at the top of the table. The right-back has a hamstring injury picked up against Blackpool and will be out for a few weeks, though boss Tony Mowbray has plenty of options at his disposal.

Long-term absentee Harry Chapman (hamstring) is now back training and was due to feature for the Under-23s on Monday but their game was postponed and that could mean he misses out this weekend. There are no other fresh concerns for Mowbray, whose side have won five of the last six games.

The game will see the welcome return to Priestfield for Bradley Dack, who will undoubtedly be the man to watch in the Rovers line up.

Blunt him and The Gills stand a chance of claiming an historic win, although they know what a talisman the diminutive forward can be.

“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s obviously one that’s been on my mind for a few weeks now,” Dack admitted to iFollow Rovers.

“It’s going to be a tough game, because they’re on a good run of form and I know that it’s a tough place to play at, but we go there full of confidence and hopefully we can get the three points.

“I have a lot of good memories and also some not so good ones from there. But on the whole, it was my first club and it has a place in my heart and always will have.

“I’m a Rovers player now and I’ve really enjoyed this season, but it will be nice to go back.

“I’m hoping for a good reception. I’m sure I’ll get a decent one. I think everyone understood it was the right time for me to leave and obviously I had some great memories with the club, so I think I’ll be fine.

“It would be lovely to get a goal down there, but the most important thing is to win the game.”

Gillingham and Blackburn haven’t met at the Priestfield Stadium since August 2009 in the League Cup – Blackburn won 3-1.

Rovers have never lost away at Gillingham in any competition – in five matches there, they’ve won three and drawn two.

Since the start of 2018, Blackburn have the three top goalscorers in League One (Danny Graham 7, Adam Armstrong 7 and Bradley Dack 6).

Tony Mowbray has managed three away matches at the Priestfield and only won once, a League Cup tie as Middlesbrough manager in August 2012 – he is winless in two league visits there (D1 L1).
