Another fine performance from the Gills Ladies saw them maintain their unbeaten start to the season on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Amy Taylor, Charlotte Gurr and Lisa Fulgence saw the Kent side brush aside their Brighton counterparts at Chatham Town’s ground.
With much hype surrounding the game and both sides going into it in form, it was the home side that dealt with the cool conditions best and controlled the game largely from the first minute to the last.
The Ladies had to be on their guard though in the opening exchanges though with Faye Baker pulling off a fine double save to deny Brighton.
Gillingham were rewarded for their effort when a specualtive thirty yard curling effort from Amy Taylor nestled into the top corner from fully thirty yards out.
The home side were to go in at the break two goals up with the ever reliable Charlotte Gurr capitalising on some sloppy defending from Brighton to nip in and score.
Once again it was Gills Ladies that dominated the second period as they prevented Brighton from taking control of the game and they rounded off a fine afternoon’s work when Lisa Fulgence stabbed the ball home after great work from Emma Tune.
The victory sees the Gills Ladies maintain their lead at the top of the Southern Premier League, staying three points clear of Cardiff City Ladies and next up is a trip to Lewes in the league next Sunday (8th), a trip to face Meridian in the County Cup on the 15th, before facing Lewes once again, this time at home on the 22nd.
Gillingham Ladies: Faye Baker, Danielle Carlton, Rachel Ahern, Deanna Cooper, Amy Taylor, Lauren Williams (Lisa Fulgence), Jay Blackie (c), Emma Tune, Jade Keogh (Lauren Davis), Fliss Gibbons (Nikitta Whinnett), Charlotte Gurr.
