Gillingham’s game with Hereford United scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
A pitch inspection at 11am on Friday morning by referee’s assessor Paul Alcock revealed that despite having had the covers on the pitch at Priestfield since Monday morning, some areas of the pitch around the goalmouths were frozen solid and the game was called off by the Football League.
The Gills had been hoping to get the game on having used the covers, but sub-zero temperatures throughout Medway over the past week, along with snow forecast for Saturday has led to the game being called off.
Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler will no doubt be disappointed not to have got a game this weekend as they look to climb back into the play-off places.
The next fixture for Gillingham is now the trip to Burton Albion on Saturday 11th February with the Hereford tie to be rescheduled at a later date.
