Just 308 people watched on as Gillingham lost their latest Checkatrade Trophy group game, going down 4-0 to a Spurs Under 21s side at The Valley.
Goals from Jack Roles, Paris Maghoma, Jaden Brown and Dylan Duncan proved to be the difference as the Spurs youngsters showed all the hallmarks of a Mauricio Pochettino side.
Midfielder Roles opened the scoring before half time with a poacher’s finish after Gills stopper Tom Hadler spilled a Maghoma shot.
Goalscorer turned provider in the second half as Maghoma doubled the Premier League 2 side’s advantage, before Brown and a Duncan penalty rounded off the win with two late strikes.
Spurs were mightily impressive but hardly a soul came to see them. Only 308 supporters turned up to witness the clash, with 60 of those supporters coming from Tottenham.
Gills fans can perhaps be excused after their home fixture was moved to Charlton while they relay the pitch at Priestfield, but evidently the lure of Tottenham failed to drag Gillingham supporters 30 miles up the A2, even though on Saturday the Gills mustered a 524-strong following at Fratton Park.
