After two years out of a British Touring Car it has been announced that Tony Gilham will be back behind the wheel of a touring car once more.
Tony will be taking to the track in the season finale at his home track of Brands Hatch in October.
It will see a return to the grid of the number 34 for the Team HARD owner. He was last on the grid in 2012 when he was racing as part of his own team.
He has scored points in the BTCC on several occasions and up until this season Team HARD were a familiar sight on the touring car grid
Tony will be racing Rob Holland’s Rotek racing Audi S3 and hoping that he can show that he still has the pace to compete at the front end of the grid.
Gilham still had the racing bug and the desire to return to BTCC when Kent Sports News spoke to him after he raced in the VW Cup earlier in the season.
Speaking about the opportunity a delighted Gilham said: “I’ve always wanted to race,” he said. “It was frustrating at times last season to have brought four cars into the BTCC but not getting the chance to race any of them.
“To get this opportunity at Brands Hatch – my home circuit – is fantastic and I can’t wait. We brought Robb into the BTCC and now he’s bringing me back!”
“I’ve put other people first for a long time and I’m still helping drivers in the VW Cup, so I thought it was about time I got to do something I really wanted to. Long term I’d love to come back as a team owner but returning to the series as a driver is also on my radar – I wouldn’t rule anything out.”
