England’s One Day coach Ashley Giles believes both Kent captain James Tredwell and Graeme Swann can play in the same side.James Tredwell Eng9

Tredwell was the stand out bowler of the recent One Day International tour to India taking eleven wickets in the five games as England lost the series 3-2.

The 30 year old Kent captain showed he is more than capable of holding a place in the side in Graeme Swann’s absence and now with the team over in New Zealand for the next tour, Giles believes Tredwell has done himself no harm at all in pushing for a place in the starting eleven alongside Swann in the One Day Internationals:

“It’s those sort of headaches, they’re good headaches,”

“Competition’s great. Look at Tredwell. He’s had a fantastic series here and Graeme Swann’s going to be back in New Zealand.”

“There’s some tough decisions to make, but the most important thing is it’s a squad effort that we go out and try and win in New Zealand.”

“It just gives us great options – I don’t see at some point why you couldn’t play two off-spinners in the same side.”

“Tredders has been fantastic this trip, he was ‘Steady Treddy’.”

Meanwhile, England captain Alistair Cook has singled Tredwell out for praise as other bowlers struggled against the dominant Indian batsman:

“It’s the first time with the new regulations and my stand-out performance was the way Tredders [Tredwell] bowled today, he’s been fantastic all tour he just gets on with his job and it’s great to have such strength in depth in that department.”

England play three Twenty 20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals against New Zealand over the coming weeks.
