Gbode agrees new Gills deal

Gillingham striker Joe Gbode has put pen to paper on a new contract at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

The 19-year-old’s current deal was due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, however he has signed an extension which will run until the summer of 2027 with a club option of a further year.

Gbode has, to date, made 21 appearances for the Gills having also enjoyed loan spells with Hastings United, Margate, Maidstone United and Aveley.

Gbode arrived in the academy as an under-15 and was top scorer for the youth team in 2021/22. He made his pro debut at the age of 16 during an FA Cup tie away at Cheltenham in November 2021.

He started in recent home fixtures against Peterborough and Tranmere respectively, causing problems from a wider forward role.

On signing his new deal, Joe said: “I am delighted, it’s a big opportunity for me. I came here as an U15 and breaking into the first-team with this club is something I wanted to do.

“There are a lot of coaches that have helped me along the way and now I want to give the fans something to cheer about.”

The news follows the contract extension for Ethan Coleman, who also signed a new deal earlier in the month keeping the midfielder at ME7 until the summer of 2027.
