Peterborough United are believed to have placed a £400,000 bid for Gillingham’s Argentinian goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

The 20 year old has attracted the attention of the Championship club after an impressive first season for The Gills, with Sky Sports reporting that Darren Ferguson’s side have placed a bid for the keeper, some weeks after revealing an interest in him.

Gazzaniga was signed by The Gills last summer after an impressive pre-season, agreeing a two year deal after being released by Spanish side Valencia, but started the last campaign as understudy to Ross Flitney.

The Argentinian made his debut against Barnet in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in October and started in goal against Bournemouth in the FA Cup a month later and was finally rewarded with his chance to impress in the league when Flitney was taken off at half time against Accrington Stanley at the end of January.

Gazzaniga went on to make nineteen league starts as Flitney went under the surgeon’s knife, keepng seven clean sheets in the process, earning him rave reviews and attracting the attention of a number of clubs.

Peterbrough United have apparently put their money on the table as both Joe Lewis and Paul Jones have left in recent months, leaving them without a first choice keeper, but former Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler had stated last season that he’d want at least £1 million for the talented shot stopper.
