Following another disappointing home result, Welling United have the arduous trip to Gateshead for a long midweek trip.
Loui Fazakerley’s first game in charge of the Wings didn’t go as well as hoped as they stuttered to a 1-0 home defeat to Altrincham.
Having to travel to the North East just two days later is not ideal but adversity sometimes brings the best out of teams.
Just one point in ten games has left Welling in the bottom four, four points adrift of safety, and Fazakerley has to pick the team up quickly.
After the defeat he said “It’s a matter of just dusting ourselves off now and preparing for Tuesday. We’ve watched Braintee against Gateshead and have an idea of what we want to do. We’ll speak on the coach going up and make sure that everyone knows what the game-plan is.”
Earlier in the season, the two teams met at Park View Road and shared the points. Harry Beautyman put the Wings ahead after five minutes but Carl Finnigan equalised in the 50th minute.
Fazakerley will have to do without captain Joe Healy who will be suspended. Jake Gallagher will also be absent finishing a ban so it is expected that Zach Fagan will come in. Anthony Jeffrey is out for the rest of the season with a broken ankle, and the manager is also unfit to play.
Last season, the two sides also played out a 1-1 draw at Gateshead on a bitterly cold Tuesday night. Healy headed the Wings ahead in the tenth minute but conceded a harsh penalty allowing Marcus Maddison to convert in the 50th minute.
