Gateshead 2-0 Bromley
Gateshead 2-0 Bromley

A disappointing game from Bromley meant they had nothing to show from their 600 mile round trip to Gateshead.

The hosts opened the scoring through Luke Armstrong who finished from Luke Molyneux’s corner and that was the only goal of the opening 45 minutes.

Fraser Kerr scored the Tynesiders’ second from a corner on 52 minutes to make the task even more difficult.

It has been a busy week for Bromley with three new attacking signings, but they were unable to help against a Gateshead side who started the game strongly.

The Heed had the better of the opening chances and just three minutes in the hosts had a chance to score the opener.

Tom White beat two Ravens players, only for Roger Johnson to deny the midfielder with a fantastic diving block.

This pressure went on and in the 13th minute Armstrong guided a shot goal-bound from Luke Molyneux’s cross but David Gregory held the header well.

The striker found the opening goal after 16 minutes. He did well to get a touch to Molyneux’s corner and loop the ball over David Gregory into the net.

It took 27 minutes for Bromley to have a good effort on goal, but Jack Barham’s header was easily held by Aynsley Pears.

Neil Smith’s squad were forced back again on 31 minutes and were lucky to not concede a second.  Steve Rigg took a cross-field pass from Fraser Kerr and fired a shot against the bar.

The Ravens, who had only lost to Gateshead once in nine matches, and that record looked to be going further and further away from the visitors in the second half.

Scott Barrow had a shot whistle past the post before Gateshead doubled their lead. Fraser Kerr did well to evade his marker and volley Luke Molyneux’s corner home from close range.

The visitors were close to getting back into the game with 61 minutes gone but, after he was played through by his centre back partner Johnson, Jack Holland’s placed effort hit the post.

Gateshead could have scored a third on 69 minutes if it wasn’t for gregory. The ball fell perfectly to Jack Hunter only for the goalkeeper to deny him with a fantastic diving save.

The visitors were reduced to minimal chances as the game went on. Substitute Adam Mekki saw his wayward effort deflect off George Porter and loop over the bar.

With just one minute remaining, they could have scored another to make it 3-0 but Hunter played though Armstrong, only for the striker to hit the post.
