Kieran Gallagher made his British Touring Car Championship debut at Knockhill last weekend and he loved every minute of it.
Just a few short weeks ago the young Scotsman was on track at Brands Hatch for Gravesend’s Team HARD in the VW Cup.
This last weekend completed a whirlwind month for Kieran and it is one that he has no intentions of giving that up.
Speaking about his race weekend, a pleased Gallagher, said: “The overall experience of racing in BTCC is beyond any of my wildest dreams. Such an amazing experience.
“I can’t wait to see if I can get back out with Team HARD, Ecosse, RCIB and Clydeside Surveys again. It is something I would grab if I got the chance.”
It was somewhat of a learning curve for the youngster who had not driven in a race series quite like the BTCC and it took him a bit of time to find his feet.
He added: “Yes, in race one and two I was still learning the car, having some issues with traction. Causing a few spins.
“I settled in great in race three, felt at home and confident with the new setup I had. It was fun battling with the guys, even if they were S2000 as I’m still new so beating anyone is fun.
“The incident with Liam Griffin could have been avoided on both parties. It’s racing, it happens.
“The Team HARD guys work harder than any team I have seen in the past, along the same lines as my guys from legends, Burnett Motorsport, different series, same passion. I seem to pick the best bunches, and if I return it will always be with Team Hard.”
We asked Kieran whether there is much difference between racing in the BTCC and the series he has competed in.
He said: “It’s completely different to VW cup and legends, I now see them as laid back racing after yesterday’s events.”
“Now I have the confidence to get back out there I think I could get a fair bit quicker with help in testing from Tom (Onslow-Cole), Jack (Goff) and Warren (Scott).
“I couldn’t have done it without the fans yesterday, they came along, told me they were all screaming for me. Not much things out there in life will give you that feeling.”
