Gillingham defender Barry Fuller is doubtful for this weekend’s home game with Burton after aggravating a knee injury.
Fuller lasted 90 minutes in the 6-1 win at Hereford despite suffering a first-half knock in a collision with Yoann Arquin and could be rested having played every minute of Gillingham’s season so far, keeping new signing Matt Fish sidelined.
Hessenthaler said: “Barry Fuller is struggling with his knee and has had a problem for a while.
“He’s going to be sore for a few days and is a doubt for the weekend.”
Should Fuller miss out, Hessenthaler may well have to utilise Matt Fish who sustained concussion in a behind closed doors friendly with Ipswich Town last week.
Fish is yet to start in the league having signed from Dover Athletic in the summer and would easily slot in at right back having impressed during pre-season.
