Howard Fuller will be back behind the wheel of the RCIB Insurance Racing Vauxhall Insignia at the next two MSA British Touring Car Championship races.
Howard will compete for Gravesend based Team HARD at Rockingham and then at Silverstone, a year after he made his BTCC debut at Rockingham.
He is no stranger to the Team HARD squad having driven for the team in the BTCC last season, and after signing a deal to compete in selected rounds with Tony Gilham’s team for this season, Howard gets his chance.
Speaking about the opportunity, Tony said: “Tony has given me the opportunity and I am absolutely delighted. It has been a little tough watching the season at times but we knew the chance would come so now I just can’t wait to get out there.
“I think we did a pretty solid job last year and although I’m still relatively new to the BTCC, I’m not new to racing. I’ll just approach it like it’s another race and I’ll be out to do the best job I can do.”
Rockingham like teammate Jack Goff holds happy memories for Howard, he won in the VW Cup there and made his BTCC debut there.
He added: “My career seems to have a lot of links with Rockingham. I won my first VW Cup race there and also made my BTCC debut there – now I’m going back to make my first BTCC appearance this season. I have good memories of the circuit and I’m really looking forward to it.”
“I had a little run in the car at Snetterton so at least I won’t be completely new to it when free practice gets underway next week. We know the car is good – I’ve obviously seen the progress Jack Goff has made with it but also having been close with the team during the build process of the cars and throughout the course of this year I know how hard everyone has worked.”
Team HARD have a lot of faith in the young racing driver, and it is clear that Team Principal Tony Gilham is focussed on giving talented young drivers their opportunity.
Speaking about Howard’s return to the BTCC, Tony said: “Howard has been patient but he’s finally got his chance, which is great,” he said. “We know Howard has the speed, as he showed last season, so we’re all looking forward to seeing him in the car.”
